Forests are the breathing lungs of our countries, they are much more than simple suppliers of lumber and timber. Especially in places like Austria or the Nordic countries we are proud of our natural and recreational areas and of our healthy forests.
Wood is also an essential and unique building material of course and through our background in the woodworking and cabinetmaker’s trade we have a special relation to forests, trees and wood all along.
Predictions and forecasts
Managing a forest is a complex and responsible task, especially in our globalised and fast moving world. We are outdoor enthusiasts, but science, simulations and numerics are the things we are good at and we support people in agriculture and forestry with the full potential of data science. Depending on the available data we can train machine learning algorithms to forecast wood prices, optimise maintenance rates or the utilisation of your machinery and calculate tailored and local predictions for your forest.
Evaluation of satellite imagery
We are currently launching a pilot project to apply our neural networks and artificial intelligence algorithms to satellite imagery from the European Space Agency (ESA) for airborne and real-time monitoring of forest and plant health. With sophisticated image recognition systems it is possible to detect small terrestrial changes, the spreading of pest infestation or deforestation. Additional satellite information like heatmaps or false color views allow to determine tree species or to identify forest compartments and shrubs.
Besides our knowledge in data science, we also have over 10 years of experience with geospatial data and climate change research. This allows us to complement our findings and calculations also with additional insight and knowledge. We are able to connect our results and simulations with your preferred GIS system and computational infrastructure.
